i’m back at it with the korg synth package on the switch. i wanted to knock out some ideas that were at the fringes of my last two switch albums (sacred stream and wiping off static). i’m still squeezing the policenauts pseudo-vocal synth for all its worth, as well as leaning hard on the korg kiev. i pushed myself to try the rest of the synths that the korg package has - there’s some dubstep / house type synths that i wouldn’t normally gravitate towards but i think i put to interesting effect. i’m worried i mixed everything a little too high and there might be some clipping, but i want to push this out so I don’t dwell on it.

the name of the album and inspiration aren’t as deep as some of my other projects. i get a ton of joy playing necromancer characters in games, especially guild wars and diablo 3. early in the pandemic i grappled with and was inspired by the necromancer as a character surrounded by death but at peace - the mantra “death provides life” from both diablo 3 and darkseed 2 helped me find solace. relatedly, i’ve been paying a ton more attention to the amount of meat i’ve been eating. i think there’s something powerful in that mantra - even if it’s something as simple as sacrificing a chicken to heal when you make soup when sick, life is sacred.

for the track names, there’s a mix of guild wars missions/quests and phantasy star universe/online quests. i don’t see the need to keep all my inspirations separate; all of these games have given me joy this year. the album art is the same, it’s a mashup of all of these games.
