more about music for the ghost town on the beach (and the people who miss them)
this album was a continuation from the ideas i’d had in the previous one. i wanted to try some new VST’s i’d gotten and do a vaporwave-style album. i got as far as the first three songs before falling into my usual style. indra’s pearls was both a regression and evolution in my apocryphal church music style, and dives was something i’d been dying to do. it’s based off “dives and lazarus”, which is a church hymn slash irish folk song which i’ve always loved the tune of. i made it very much my own, and removed all the religion from it. i’ve stolen it from the church.
the album artwork is a combination of some faces i drew in sharpie and a lino-cut carving of faces that i also did. i always loved whipping out sloppy, spooky faces like these. i think they really fit what i was going for. i was sticking with ghosts for this. i think of this album as a continuation of my first one more than a standalone thing. i think it works.
there’s not too much else to say about this album. i pushed it out after only five songs because i felt trapped by the styling restrictions i’d placed on myself. i think vague notions of “vaporwave” were never really what i’d truly wanted. i called it done so i could move onto something else, something better. i’m glad i did.
